The Goal
First to 10 Victory Points wins. You earn them by building settlements, upgrading to cities, holding the Longest Road or Largest Army, and playing development cards.
Setup
The board is 19 hex tiles placed randomly every game — so no two games are ever identical. Each tile produces one resource (Ore, Grain, Wool, Brick, Lumber) when its number is rolled.
Each Turn:

- Trade — with players or the bank (harbors give better rates)
- Build — roads, settlements, cities, or development cards

1. Opening placement defines your game
Prioritise spots with access to multiple resource types. All 5 resources in reach beats being hyper-efficient with just 2 or 3.
2. Ore + Grain = late game dominance
Cities double your production and are the fastest path to 10 points. Secure strong Ore and Grain early, then build cities relentlessly.
3. Trade. Always trade.
Hoarding loses games. Players with 7+ cards lose half to a Robber roll. Stay lean, trade often.
4. Watch the Victory Point count
If someone quietly hits 7–8 points with face-down dev cards, they might win on their next turn. Don't let the quiet ones sneak past you.
